RESEARCH: Leonid Afremov - Dark Night

Dark Night is an oil painting on canvas by Leonid Afremov made using a palette knife only. Leonid was born 12th July 1955 in Vitebsk, Belarus. He is a Russian-Israeli modern impressionistic artist who mainly works with a palette knife and oils. He began to develop his own technique of quick and short strokes layered over another by visiting galleries. As seen in most of his artwork he prefers bright vivid tones and hues that you usually wouldn't see to bring life to his art. Leonid says that "My heart is completely open to art. Thus, i enjoy creating inspired and beautiful paintings from the bottom of my soul. Each of my artworks reflects my feelings, sensitivity, passion, and the music from my soul" hence the bright colours he uses which refers that he is very passionate about art and is a very emotional man.

I like this artwork in particular because of the techniques he used to layer odd colours that wouldn't work in a realistic piece. Despite the striking shades it clearly shows its set at night due to the dark pathway, it brings the night to life in a way you wouldn't expect.

This artwork could be an inspiration for a game due to its unique art style and use of bold colours. I could imagine it being in another dimension or dream sequence due to the style being so different it might confuse some if it were to be continuous throughout a game. I don't believe VFX would come into play with this but it would also make for a stunning animation, so many animations have a similar style so it would be good to see something that stands out.
